{"id":74,"date":"2016-06-25T10:21:36","date_gmt":"2016-06-25T16:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.curli.us\/?p=74"},"modified":"2016-07-01T14:10:38","modified_gmt":"2016-07-01T20:10:38","slug":"browsers-and-batteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curli.us\/?p=74","title":{"rendered":"Browsers and Batteries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There has been some hype about Microsoft&#8217;s current advertisement campaign about the fact that their Edge browser consumes the least amount of battery power and therefore provides the longest runtime on laptop\/mobile\/tablet devices. \u00a0I would like to share my thoughts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/microsoft-edge\">Microsoft Edge<\/a> just simply works. \u00a0Unless you are browsing corporate websites (which typically are not updated on any basis of frequency), it just works. \u00a0The pages render fine and it is fast. \u00a0This is due to the fact that it is a simple program designed to just browse the web. \u00a0It has no add-ons or plugins to weigh it down. \u00a0The browser is not glamorous, it doesn&#8217;t sync your settings, it has no killer features, it just simply works. \u00a0Period.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/chrome\/browser\/desktop\/\">Google Chrome<\/a> is horribly bloated and weighed down. \u00a0When it was launched in 2008, it was lightweight and simple. \u00a0Eight years later that is all completely changed. \u00a0Google itself loads seemingly uncountable features that all consume resources on your computer. \u00a0But there is no denying its success\u00a0is agreed upon by a gigantic 60% of the world&#8217;s Internet users. \u00a0Unfortunately, Google has forgotten to remain resource-friendly. \u00a0All the added features and compatibility equals high resource consumption and you pay for that in the lowest battery life of all the browsers.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.opera.com\">Opera<\/a> still has my support, but has grown stagnant over the past few years. \u00a0Oh, and they still have not yet fixed the broken sync feature.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vivaldi.com\">Vivaldi<\/a> is currently my browser of choice. \u00a0It reminds me of the Opera that once was years ago and is very fast and feature-rich while being friendly on resources. \u00a0I invite you to give it a try, especially since it is free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course none of this matters to desktop users, in fact you should install all browsers on a desktop system if you have one. \u00a0Laptop users have limited abilities\u00a0if you want to stay mobile for long periods of time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There has been some hype about Microsoft&#8217;s current advertisement campaign about the fact that their Edge browser consumes the least amount of battery power and therefore provides the longest runtime on laptop\/mobile\/tablet devices. \u00a0I would like to share my thoughts.
