{"id":127,"date":"2017-03-01T07:12:57","date_gmt":"2017-03-01T13:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.curli.us\/?p=127"},"modified":"2017-03-01T07:14:08","modified_gmt":"2017-03-01T13:14:08","slug":"vmware-cant-add-nfs-datastore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curli.us\/?p=127","title":{"rendered":"VMware Can&#8217;t Add NFS Datastore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This problem took me over a month to figure out. \u00a0However, with the help of a fellow tech guy (shout out to Michael Groff, thank you bro), it&#8217;s finally put to rest.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms: VMware ESXi server will not connect to a FreeNAS NFS share no matter what. \u00a0When trying to add it, VMware immediately displays a &#8220;failed&#8221; error.<\/p>\n<p>Cause: About a month ago, I had an existing datastore connected with the name of &#8220;BACKUP&#8221; that was an iSCSI share from a Synology NAS. \u00a0This single drive finally failed and needed to be replaced. \u00a0Since the drive failed, I did not specifically delete the datastore from VMware, although it did not show anymore.<br \/>\nThis was ultimately the problem. \u00a0While VMware didn&#8217;t show the datastore, I was trying to add a new datastore also called &#8220;BACKUP&#8221; (trying to remain consistent here) but somewhere in VMware the name still existed. \u00a0Unfortunately I&#8217;ve lost the link to the website where the fix was found, but it&#8217;s so simple that I still remember it.<\/p>\n<p>Resolution: Connect to VMware ESXi using SSH and run the command\u00a0<strong>esxcfg-nas -d &lt;datastore name&gt;<\/strong><br \/>\nIt will generate an error such as &#8220;Datastore not found; but we deleted it anyway&#8221;. \u00a0After that, you should be able to add your NFS datastore again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This problem took me over a month to figure out. \u00a0However, with the help of a fellow tech guy (shout out to Michael Groff, thank you bro), it&#8217;s finally put to rest.
